Alumnae Camping Trip
WLC CAMPING R&R A FIREY & STARRY SUCCESS
The first WLC camping retreat was late Friday afternoon through Sunday morning at Baker Park Reserve, October 3-5. The group campsite for 50 people gave the 6 WLC campers lots of space to take in the trees, fire, sky and water. We spent day and evening hours around the campfire listening to stories of fire goddesses (Pele from Hawaii, Bridgett from Ireland, Hestia from Greece); contemplating fire-y words such as: flame, spark, kindle, ember, ash, forged, fired, purification, glowing, wildfire; and sharing our thoughts and our silence.
We enjoyed spectacular food; heard owls, frogs and crickets; and had time on
the water in a canoe and kayaks. We practiced the "five elements" (tai ji) in a big grassy area surrounded by huge, leafy green trees and under a dazzling blue sky. We packed up our tents and gear satisfyingly before the steady rains started on the morning of our departure. We left for home feeling like we had been far away rather than just a few miles west of downtown Minneapolis.
Thanks to Ginny Belden-Charles, Kathy Magnuson and Renee Corbin for facilitating this WLC Alum R&R. Plans are in the works to go camping again next September. Be watching for details in 2009.
